Larry Smith

I was saddened to learn that It’s For The Birds birdhouse artist Larry Smith passed away in February. His wife Gail died the year before. They embodied inventing a new life beyond retirement, creating these intricate birdhouses that give both bird and man so much joy. We will treasure the Mill Street birdhouses even more and will keep the Smith family in our prayers.

Over thirty years ago, Larry Smith was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and later lost his left hand in a construction accident. Despite these setbacks, Larry found a new purpose by creating beautiful birdhouses based on America’s historic structures.

Behind each of the guest houses on Mill Street in Stanford, Larry has created an identical guest house for the birds that our non-feathered human guests can enjoy too. Larry and his wife live and run their business It’s for the Birds from Georgia.
